Getting Started with Mantrailing

What can you expect?

Your first session is an Introduction to Mantrailing, which typically means you and your dog will be learning alongside other beginners and more experienced teams. All sessions are different and you will receive more detailed information by email about how the first session will run.

On the day you will see Mantrailing in action, and I’ll walk you through your very first trails. By the end of that first session your dog will typically have completed 3 trails, and we’ll have learned how they like to play it, how they like to be rewarded, and how to challenge your dog next. You will get a completion certificate and will be able to book on any Progression session I run, including special themed events (these are longer, themed sessions where we either have an extra trail each, a specific learning, fun activities for both dogs and handlers, prizes, and all the dogs get a goody bag).

What do I need to take part?

You will need:

  • A y shaped harness for your dog

  • A long line (5m - 10m long)

  • 1 or 2 small sized Tupperware pots

  • Some tasty high value food for your dog (eg cat food, soft cheese, peanut butter…)

  • An item of clothing you've worn recently (so you can get involved with the trails for other dogs)

If you already have this, there is no need to purchase anything special for sessions, (although some clients do like to have a special harness for trailing, and I can help you choose if that’s the case)

If you would like to borrow a harness or long line on your first session before committing to purchasing, just let me know when you book your Introduction session.

How often do I have to attend?

Once you’ve completed your Introduction to  Mantrailing you can attend as many Progression sessions as you like. I typically offer 2 sessions per week, and this is increasing, and they’re spread across Greater Manchester & Salford. You can check current dates/venues by clicking any Book Now button on the page to go to the online calendar..

If you have any questions about Mantrailing, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to help or schedule a call to discuss.

Team Olive

"Really great setup for reactive dogs, and I very much recommend giving it a go!!"

Team Tessa

"Janet was a fantastic instructor from the first contact I had with her...she really knows her stuff and helped me enter the world my dog 'sees' through its nose. Like the very best teachers Janet adapted everything to the suit the student in front of her... Can't wait to go back!"

Team Rodney

“Before booking I was a little worried because Rodney can be a little anxious and reactive in some situations but Janet sent us a really comforting email before we booked and made us feel really welcome.
